There are always plenty of birds to see around Ventnor and here are just a few that I saw on a short walk back in November 2014.
Superb Fairy Wren (male), Malurus cyaneus |
European Goldfinch, Carduelis carduelis |
Australian White Ibis, Threskiornis moluccus |
Swamp Harrier, Circus approximans |
Superb Fairy Wren (male), Malurus cyaneus |
Eastern Yellow Robin, Eopsaltria australis |
New Holland Honeyeater, Phylidonyris novaehollandiae |
Sorry for picking on your Brown Goshawk IDs but this one is an adult male Swamp Harrier. Raptors can be really tough to get a feel for but after a time the id keys stick out more and more. Can highly recommend Stephen Debus' book Birds of Prey of Australia. It has excellent plates same as in HANZAB and photos to help. Can get as hard copy and electronic eg Google Books.
ReplyDeleteThanks James, always happy to be corrected as I'm still learning :-) That's actually more exciting for me that it is a Swamp Harrier - I better look back through some of my other photos, maybe I have more than I think!
