I got this checklist off the Avibase website. It lists 914 birds, 7 of which are extinct. It covers Australia and includes the outlying islands (Macquarie, Norfolk, Cocos Keeling, Christmas Island etc)
Total tally is found in the first column and smaller tallies are found for each family throughout the list.
I am only checking birds that I have seen in the wild and photographed.
