A few weeks ago, I was out walking the dog around the Banyule flats again and came across a pair of Buff-banded Rails. They darted into the bushes as soon as they saw us. We patiently waited and saw one of them walk out into the grotty pond amongst a few Purple Swamphens. The photo quality wasn't great so I left to pursue a group of Musk Lorikeets in a nearby flowering gum.
As I was photographing the Lorikeets I noticed a 3rd Rail wander out of the reeds beside us. This one was a lot happier to pose for a photo. Shame about the wire fence that is slightly obscuring the bird though.
Now to find the Spotless Crake that supposedly lives around here!
